About the Lakes

Queenstown nestles in the crook of a natural harbour on the biggest of the area’s waterways.

At 85kms, Lake Wakatipu sweeps from north-west to south, cutting a bright blue ribbon through the mountains.

The vast majority of the banks remain completely as nature designed them, which makes lakefront property in and around Queenstown one of New Zealand’s most attractive investments. With very few exceptions, most areas near the resort enjoy views of Wakatipu, which is stunning from every angle.

It’s also ideal for watersports and fishing, on water clear enough to spot sizeable trout gliding beneath.
Countless small beaches around the coast mean every boatie can enjoy a personal day of sun-worshipping, while coves, bays and jetties nearer town allow every visitor and resident easy access to a day at the water’s edge.

Lake Hayes, a short drive from town, is a great deal smaller but serene year round, and features a wide beach frontage and access points off the 8km walking track that surrounds it. Property here among the region’s micro-climate is also renowned for its consistent investment value.
